Not really, but the “socks and sandals” stereotype is probably THE most German meme on earth. I mean, apart from nice-but-finicky cars and a lack of humor.

Put another way, if I walked into a room with socks and sandals, I would expect half the people I know to make a bad joke about German tourists.

I think the meme (probably mostly in the US/UK) comes from a handful of times somebody went to Croatia or Greece and saw German pensioners wearing socks and sandals...and the stereotype stuck.

Just like Fat Americans who wear shorts and fanny packs (bum bags) everywhere.

Apparently fanny packs are making a comeback. Some of my students are wearing them. I was like “Really???”. Didn’t check which Hip Hop or whatever celebrity is behind this.

I have a pair of toe socks I got for free. I’m very tempted to wear them, ironically of course, with my rainbows. I would certainly get a laugh out of it and that is all that matters lol
